Description: A popular leash-free park for dogs and their owners, Red Bud Isle lies on Town Lake, just below the Lake Austin dam. Canoers and kayakers often take advantage of the shores and nearby parking.

A short loop trail is great for walking with your dog and the point is a great place to watch your dog swim.

Help Keep Red Bud Isle Clean – Scoop the Poop. More info on the City’s Scoop the Poop web site. Remember, if in doubt, pick it up! We all thank you.

Since Friends of Red Bud’s formation in 2007, a great deal has been accomplished. Benches have been added, and three major erosion-control projects completed. Eagle Scouts added a split rail fence installed an information kiosk. The group raised about $20,000 for park improvements, including a $16,000 grant from Austin Parks Foundation. Enormous progress has been made in educating park users about poop pick-up and environmental issues. If what you see when you go to Red Bud is a well tended, mulched, attractive place, Friends of Red Bud Isle deserves your thanks!

Ongoing and upcoming projects:

Ongoing and upcoming projects:

  • Poop Patrol and Trash pickup – this is ongoing daily by many volunteers
  • Boat ramp repair – investigation under way with various city departments and APF.
  • Parking issues – under review by PARD
  • Tree planting and seeding – As part of the long-term invasive removal plan, this will be done in conjunction with natural re-growth.
  • Invasive removals and on-going maintenance
  • Installation of cedar fencing to block areas near the street entrance – under review.
  • Nature trail in an area south side of the parking lot where the park was most impacted by invasive plants – on hold.
  • Poison Ivy solution – Red Bud is particularly sensitive to poison ivy because it can readily be transferred from a dog’s coat to their owner’s skin.
  • Erosion repairs – primarily holes dug by dogs in various areas
  • Mulching
  • Replacement of old rusty garbage cans with new receptacles, and critter-proof ones in needed areas.
